     “Who are you!?”
     The figure ahead didn’t answer.
     “Well!? Answer me!”
     Still no reply.
“I’m not happy with what you’ve done around here!”
     The figure ahead just growled.
“Grr, fine then! If you want to be stubborn like that…” she drew her sword, “Then I’ll have to destroy you!”
Chiaki charged forward, screaming. The figure ahead looked up, its red, glowy eyes glaring dangerously at her. It opened its mouth.
     “Benkyo o…shimassssssssss…” it hissed.
     She skidded to a stop.
“What!?” she demanded. Then the figure ahead opened its mouth again. A blinding ball of light appeared, engulfing everything. She closed her eyes tightly against the brightness.

When she opened them again, she was in her bed, her alarm clock beeping annoyingly as it always did.
“Grrrr…that dream again. That freaking dream!” she growled angrily, tossing her blankets aside. She slammed her hand on the clock, knocking it off the table. It crashed to the ground, and its batteries fell out.
     “Arrrrggggh…”

Later on, in school, she sat down in her third period class, Japanese III.
“Hey, Stump.” She said to her friend sitting across from her. Her friend just looked at her for a moment. Then she reached over and poked her hand.
“Ninja poke.” She hissed with a big grin on her face. Chiaki just smiled back. Then she glanced over to the front of the room, noticing the projector.
“Are we going to watch a movie or something?” she asked.
     “Or something.” Stumpy shrugged.
They did some listening work as a couple of people hooked the computer up to the projector. Then the lights went out, the projector was turned on, and a Jeopardy-type grid, with six subjects lining the top of the grid, and points from 1 to 5 under each column was displayed.
“Oh. I guess we’re having a pre-test practice game…” Chiaki murmured. Someone chose the 3-point question under the subject “Kanji”.
“Write the Kanji for school.” Was the question. Crap…I can never remember that one…Chiaki thought to herself. The same thought came up again several times, more times than Chiaki figured would allow her to pass the upcoming test. Gotta study during 5th period or something…I really need to do well on this test.
Of course, Chiaki never did get around to studying that day, as during both 4th and 5th periods, she ended up writing a story for her 1st period class, Creative Writing. And after school, she had to go to Job Club for 2 hours, and of course, the last thing she wanted to do when she finally came home was study.

That night, she had that same dream again. She was standing in the dark, dusty wasteland that was once a bright field. The beautiful cherry and dogwood trees were now spindly, creepy sticks sticking out of the cracked, dry ground. Chiaki glared. In front of her was that thing again, the thing that had caused all this damage.
“You’re still here…” she grabbed the hilt of her sword. “Why!? What will it take to get rid of you?”
     “Sssssshhhimasssss…” the thing whispered.
     “What!? Speak up!”
     “Beeeennkyooooooo wo ssssshhhiiimaaaaasssssssss…”
“’Benkyo wo shimasu’…? Wait, you want me to study!?” Chiaki barked.
     “Hhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiii…”
“You’re destroying my world because I need to study.” Chiaki shook her head in disbelief. “You’re insane! Get outta here! NOW!” She drew her sword and charged forward again, this time altering her path to try and attack from behind. It didn’t work. The bright light shone again and when Chiaki opened her eyes, she was, again, back in her bed.

“Why is this creature destroying my world because I need to study for a freaking test in the real world?” She shook her head. It made no sense to her. Oh well. I finished that story, and I don’t have any clubs today, so I suppose there’s no valid excuse for not studying…She sighed. I just hope everyone is alright…

She studied hard that day, and the next day. The dreams still occurred, her world getting worse and worse. This thing is just going to destroy everything until I pass this test.

There was no blue sky in sight. She wasn’t standing in the barren field anymore, but rather in the remains of a village. The village that, in this world, she called home. Tomorrow is the day of the test. I have to pass…no, not just pass, I have to do really well in order to save this world from suffering any longer. She glanced around sadly. No one was in sight. She began walking when she felt something hard and long beneath her feet. Looking down, she saw an elaborate metal arrow. She picked it up. Normally a metal object like this would’ve felt cold, but this one felt warm. She closed her eyes. She knew whom this arrow belonged to, and why it was warm even though it hadn’t been held in several hours.
Teo…

She stepped into the Japanese room biting her tongue. This is it. I’m going to do this. She sat down.
“You ready for the test, Stumpy?” she asked her friend.
“As ready as I ever will be.” Stumpy replied. “You?”
     “Same.”
The test papers were passed out. The first page, as it always was, consisted of the Hiragana/Katakana chart. Free points. Chiaki thought. She’d had every character memorized since her first year studying Japanese. The rest of the test had two and a half pages of matching, translating, fill in the blanks, and sentence writing.
By the end of the test, Chiaki felt relieved, feeling that she had done a good job. All that studying paid off…now I just need to wait until tomorrow to find out how well I actually did.

Chiaki was disappointed to find that the state of her world had not changed even though she had done her test. This left her worried. Maybe I didn’t do so well…
She was standing on a cliff that was overlooking the land below, mountains lining the horizon, and dark clouds covering the sky. The barren field was behind her, though there was no sign of the thing. I’ll find out tomorrow, I guess…

She thought she would go crazy waiting for the tests to be handed back the next day. It was only 5 minutes into class, but already flocks of butterflies were invading her stomach, and she couldn’t sit still.
“I wonder if they even will be handed back today…ohhhhh…” her voice was shaky, and she felt like she was going to be sick.
“Dude…we’re only like 5 minutes into class. Calm down.” Stumpy said as she dragged out a drawing. “Or Kilt Ninja will smite thee!” she tossed the drawing at Chiaki, and Chiaki gave Stumpy an amused look.
Then the teacher began to pass out the tests. This is it…Chiaki bit harder on her tongue. As the teacher reached her table, Chiaki even stopped breathing. The fate of my world rests on my test score…The teacher laid her test in front of her, face down so that Chiaki couldn’t see her score without picking up the paper. She reached for it, her hand shaking, palms sweating, and rested her hand on the paper. Swallowing hard, she slowly picked the paper up…and then pushed it away.
“Ohhhhh I can’t do it!!!” she cried, burying her face into her hands. Stumpy reached over, picked the paper up, turned it over, and looked at it.
“Its ok, Chiaki. Look: not bad score desu.” She turned the paper around so that Chiaki could see it. Chiaki slowly looked up, and saw a big fat 85/100 written in red ink on the top of the paper.
“W-what?” she grabbed the paper and stared at it. “85/100??? Holy crap!” She flipped through the test to see what she had missed. Mostly vocabulary, but she got extra credit points for writing the date in Kanji. Sighing, she left the paper in front of her as the class began to go over the answers. I did better than I thought I would…but is it good enough to get rid of that thing?

She stood once again in the field. Lightning flashed in the distance, and the thing was in front of her.
“Ok, you! I studied and did pretty well on that test! So now what are you gonna do!?” She drew her sword again, prepared to finish this thing off, and was shocked to find that it wasn’t her sword after all, but rather, a giant Japanese calligraphy brush loaded with silver ink.
     “W-what in the…?”
More to her surprise, the thing started to look surprised itself, and even a little threatened. So…I have to beat this thing with a brush!? She gave it a swing, and silver ink flew through the air. A few droplets hit the monster and it flinched in pain. Holy crap, I do have to fight this thing with a brush! She dove in closer, flinging ink at the monster as hard as she could. Each drop that hit it caused it to disintegrate a little more. In no time, the monster was no more.
Instead, what remained was some kind of fairy, dressed in a kimono, and its hair up in a Japanese style.
“What now? Who are you?” Chiaki asked, still fired up from her one-sided battle.
“That creature that I was turned into was an embodiment of the stress you faced in the other world. Stress from one of your classes.”
     Chiaki stared in amazement.
“I was still able to urge you to do what needed to be done. And you did. That brush was granted to you as a reward for you efforts.” The fairy smiled. “It certainly made that battle easier, didn’t it? Had you aced that test, though, you would’ve been able to wield a gold ink brush…”
“Either way, though, that monster…well, you’re back to normal now, so this world should return to normal now, right?” Chiaki asked, concerned about the fate of her world.
“Of course. Just remember to stay on top of you’re work in the other world, now.” The fairy smiled again, and disappeared.
Chiaki saw that her shadow was growing, and turned around to see that the dark clouds were being blown away, and sunlight was beginning to shine again. She walked over to the edge of the cliff, staring wide-eyed at the beauty of the sun shining the darkness away. Its just like the sunsets in the real world, when its been raining all day, until sunset, and then the clouds blow away, revealing the sunlight…I only wish I had a camera in this world!
She stared in awe for what seemed like hours. She looked down only for a moment to find that the brush was again her sword.
Then she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around to see a boy with silver eyes and shining gray hair. She smiled, and then spoke softly.
“Teo…”
Hmm...we were supposed to write a mystery story for Creative Writing class, but mine turned out more fantasy like, so thats why I submitted it to the Fantasy category. :)

I wasn't really sure what to call it, I called it what I did because typically people create their own world to escape from the stresses of the real world, but somehow, they followed Chiaki into her world.

this could totally have actually happened! It's so funny how you made it fit with your life and what I would think your dreams would be. You're also becoming as good a writer as I am... there's a scary thought.
